Use the Five Elements to Bring out the Best in Your Child
As parents, we intuitively know our children are unique.
Even so, it can be quite shocking to have two kids who are complete opposites despite their parentage! Each child has different strengths and challenges and will need a different type of parenting in order to thrive. You may also notice that each child tends to have different health problems. One child may spike a high fever with every illness and your other child has colds that always go into the chest. If your child suffers from a chro…
Let Go of Guilt and Anxiety: Avoid Defining Your Child by Their Disease
Many parents who step into my clinic have a child with a chronic illness. I've seen first hand how worry, doubt, guilt, fear, and anxiety about their child's illness can build up and subconsciously define how the parent sees their child. I've also had this experience myself when my first born came down with a severe chronic case of eczema. It's easy to let the feelings of guilt and anxiety overwhelm you (see my personal post Letting of of Mommy Guilt), but the problem is these thoughts creat…
Opting Out Part 2: The Doctor of the Future is You & Your Healthcare Team
In my last post, Opting Out Part 1: Parents Fed Up with 'Conventional' Medicine and "The Look", I examined the common frustrations parents have arising from deficiencies in ‘conventional’ medicine. In summary, many parents are seeking a different healthcare model for their child. They’re unsatisfied with what ‘conventional’ medicine has to offer for acute or chronic problems. They’ve decided to buck the current trend by making different choices for their children regarding nutrition, supple…
Opting Out: Parents Fed Up with Conventional Medicine and "The Look"
Parents today are faced with many challenges and obstacles in their quest to raise happy and healthy children. We get conflicting messages all the time about the “right way” to parent. The most recent study seems to contradict the previous study. Where should your baby sleep? What should your baby eat? What to do if your baby is a picky eater? Can you hold your baby too much? Everywhere you turn you get conflicting data. Vaccine safety is another hot topic loaded with controversy. An increasi…
Mommy Guilt: It's Time to Let it Go
You’ve joined the mommy club and gone through a labor of love. Now you have this precious angel to care for. A person in your life that you love more than you could have expected. There are no words to describe the deep bond of love mothers feel for their children. It brings out so many qualities in us like nurturing, kindness, selflessness, protectiveness, empathy, creativity and strength. It also brings out something many of us never expected -- guilt. Mommy guilt comes in many different…
Easing Back into School
My kids started school today. Unlike last year, I started preparing for back to school a couple of weeks ago. The first step was getting to the boys to bed earlier. It's so hard to do in August when it is hot and the sun doesn't go down until late (it's unnatural to start school before labor day as far as I'm concerned). So, I started giving my boys a melatonin spray under the tongue about 30 - 60 minutes before bed to help counteract their exposure to light before bed. We also have some bl…
