Since I joined the team as the adult and pediatric health specialist at Detox Rejuvenation I've been having a lot of conversations with parents. Many of these parents are doing all the right things…Maybe you can relate to this? They've already gone gluten-free and dairy-free, they don't let their kids eat sugar. They don't eat a bunch of preservatives, artificial colors or flavors. They don’t let their kids eat Takis even when they beg! They're eating organic. They're very carefully choosing the foods that they're feeding their children. And yet, their children are still struggling. Maybe this is an all too familiar story you can relate to? Maybe you're doing similar things and you're still scratching your head going, "I don't get it! We're doing all the right things. Why is my kid struggling?” And that's a really important question to ask. In the literature and research one thing is abundantly clear -- at the root of many common pediatric conditions is gut disruption. So what does that look like in real life? Allergies Asthma Frequent illness ADHD Autism OCD ODD PANS/PANDAS It can manifest as any number of neurological, learning and behavioral issues. It can look like outright digestive symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Some of these kids may not have a formal diagnosis, but they also struggle with falling asleep and staying asleep. When they wake up, they don't look well rested. They may have dark shiners or circles under their eyes. Their nervous systems are practically in overdrive. They just can't seem to settle down. And they're overreacting to situations and if they don't get their way, the response is completely over the top and inappropriate for the situation because they can't regulate. It's not that they want to act out. It's just that they literally lose it and cannot get their emotions and their behavior under control so it has to play itself out. A lot of these kids do totally fine at school. And then as soon as they get home, they are struggling. They are overreacting. They're losing it with their parents because they’re in a safe place, but that doesn't make it any easier if your child is taking it out on you. Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free (GFDF) Diet Is A Good Start, But Not Enough The common denominator of all of these conditions is disruptions in the gut, and that's why a lot of parents go gluten-free and dairy-free because they know that there's something going on and they know these foods make their child’s symptoms worse. But, things have changed and it’s not enough anymore. That's why we have to look at what are all the factors that are disrupting the gut, including food. Food's a very important part, but it's not the whole picture. And there could be other factors in the environment that are disrupting the gut that aren't being addressed that are going to either slow down the healing process or cause a child to plateau in their healing journey. Is this sounding like you or your child? Are you, are you saying, “oh yeah, that's my kid” Let me know in the comments below. Let me know what you're struggling with, what you need help with. In my next video, I'll talk more about the factors that lead to gut disruption. And I think you'll start to see some of the correlation between those factors and your child's symptoms. << Watch Previous Video: A message for parents with a child that is still struggling
Is your child struggling with a mental, emotional, or health condition? Are they having emotional or behavioral issues that you're concerned about? Or a health problem like asthma allergies, eczema, ADHD, or autism? You are not alone! By the age of 16, approximately 54% of children have a chronic illness diagnosis. BY THE AGE OF 16. I find this statistic incredibly troubling. When I started my career in pediatrics, I thought I was on the front edge of reversing these trends. Yet, they don't seem to be getting any better. If anything, they’re getting worse. If your child is struggling, please leave a comment below and let me know what you're dealing with and what your family needs help with. Half of parents have a child that is struggling with one issue or another. Unfortunately, pediatric medicine, as a whole, is lagging behind. It wasn't until my own family health crisis that I woke up to what is causing our kids to get so sick and the fact that the root causes are just simply not being addressed. Not by acupuncturists, not by doctors, not by chiropractors or naturopaths… there are very few who really truly understand what is making our children so sick and how to go about addressing it. So if you have a child, that's struggling. I want to know because I will be sharing some of the insights I've learned on my own journey. And I'll be sharing some tools that you can use at home to empower your family and take charge of your health. We may not have caused our child to get sick, but it's our job to fix it. So, join me on this seven-week discussion on what is causing our children to be so sick, what the real root causes are, and why pediatric medicine is lagging. And then let's talk about solutions. Let me know in the comments below if this is resonating and what your story is!
A chronic cough Robin. I mentioned it in an email to you and thank you for your reply.
Yes! Keep me posted on how it goes! More info coming soon to help as well!
Autism
Thanks for sharing Jen! The #1 thing I hear from parents of an autistic child is that there's no one single practitioner that's helps them manage all the different therapies, doctors, and supplements. The system fails to address them as a whole child. What has your experience been?
Colitis :( the Colon is always inflamed and I suffer a lot with that
Thanks for letting me know Monica! Colitis is tough. Sending you lots of love. I'll be sharing some of the root causes in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
DMDD
PTSD anxiety
Oh my! Thanks for for sharing JJ. That's got to be rough. Sending you lots of love!
My son wakes up a few times a month with a super stuffy nose. It started when he was 2 and now he is 5. He also still has difficulties with bedwetting at night. We also eat a clean diet and live in an area with clean air. He has not been tested for mold, but both parents have tested negative for mold. I'm curious what else could be contributing?
Thanks for letting me know Jill! When I think about chronic stuffy nose, there are several root causes that come to mind. I'll be sharing more about them in the coming weeks. Clean diet, air and living are really great first steps. So many parents are reporting that it's not enough anymore-- so you're not alone!
Yes this is us as well.
